Teeth Tips for the Whole Family

Having an amazing smile should be a common family goal. Each individual member’s self esteem will be boosted because of their pearly whites. Family time will be more enjoyable if no one has bad breath. Proper dental care should begin as early as possible. Here are some ways to encourage correct dental hygiene in your family.

Naturally if the adults cannot take care of their own teeth, they will not be able to instill it in their children. Make sure you brush your teeth twice a day with a toothbrush that is no more than three months old. At a minimum, have your teeth cleaned at the dentist once per year. If you are unhappy with imperfections, let your dentist know so you can work together to come up with a plan of action.

Teens and Children

By now, parents should have taught their children how to brush their teeth and make annual dental visits. A common aspect of being a child is the need for braces if the teeth are crooked. Although the child will most likely not be happy about the discomfort and limitations that braces will cause them for a lengthy period of time, it is important that parents remind their children how much better their teeth will look when the procedure is complete, as well as finding an orthodontist who is empathetic to children’s fears.

Wiping your baby’s gums with a damp cloth encourages you to get into the habit of caring for your baby’s mouth even before it is time to brush those teeth. Since the teeth can begin to penetrate the gums before parents are aware, it is necessary to make sure that there is no bacteria in your baby’s mouth so the teeth will not be affected during growth. After the teeth grow, gently brush the baby’s teeth twice a day with a light amount of toothpaste.
