Cocoa Beach Family Dentistry is your source for dentures in Cocoa Beach. Dentures are used to replace natural teeth and are removable. Dentures offer chewing support and help maintain facial structures after tooth loss.
How Do Dentures Work?
Most dentures are made of acrylic and can be fabricated two different ways:
- Conventional dentures are fitted after teeth have been removed and the gums have healed.
- Immediate dentures are inserted immediately after teeth are extracted and the tissues are allowed to heal under the denture. This means that you experience a new smile without the appearance of missing teeth at the same time teeth are removed.
Dentures can be used to replace both upper and lower teeth:
- An upper denture has flesh-colored acrylic that covers the palate (roof of the mouth) and gums.
- A lower denture is shaped like a horseshoe and fits over the teeth to leave room for the tongue.
Teeth in a denture can be made of porcelain or acrylic and can be made to fit over gums or other structures. Dentures will monitored for fit and comfort and will need to be replaced over time to maintain proper jaw alignment, as tooth extraction will cause the bone and gum ridges to recede over time. You will still need regular dental examinations with Drs. David Ross and Erin Kahlon so that we can monitor your oral tissues for change and proper health.
